WordPress is a free and open-source content management system (CMS) written in PHP and MySQL. It is used to create blogs, websites, and applications. WordPress is one of the most popular CMSs in the world, with a market share of over 60%.

In this tutorial, we will show you how to install and configure XAMPP and WordPress on Ubuntu.

Prerequisites

To follow this tutorial, you will need the following:

Installing XAMPP

The first step is to install XAMPP on your Ubuntu server. You can download the latest version of XAMPP from the XAMPP website.

Once you have downloaded the XAMPP installer, open a terminal window and navigate to the directory where you downloaded the installer. Then, run the following command to install XAMPP:

sudo sh ./xampp-linux-x64-7.4.10-0-installer.run

The XAMPP installer will guide you through the installation process. Once the installation is complete, you will be able to start the XAMPP control panel by running the following command:

sudo /opt/lampp/lampp start

Installing WordPress

The next step is to install WordPress on your XAMPP server. You can download the latest version of WordPress from the WordPress website.

Once you have downloaded the WordPress installer, open a terminal window and navigate to the directory where you downloaded the installer. Then, unzip the WordPress archive.

Next, create a new directory called “wordpress” in the “/opt/lampp/htdocs” directory. Then, copy the contents of the WordPress archive into the “wordpress” directory.

Now, open your web browser and navigate to the following address:

http://localhost/wordpress

You will be presented with the WordPress installation wizard. Follow the wizard to complete the installation process.

Configuring WordPress

Once the WordPress installation is complete, you will need to configure WordPress. You can do this by logging into the WordPress dashboard.

To log into the WordPress dashboard, open your web browser and navigate to the following address:

http://localhost/wordpress/wp-admin

Enter your username and password and click “Log In”.

Once you are logged in, you will be able to configure WordPress. You can change the site title, tagline, and other settings. You can also add new users and manage your posts and pages.

Accessing WordPress via SSH

You can also access WordPress via SSH. To do this, open a terminal window and connect to your server using SSH.

Once you are connected to your server, you can use the following command to change directories to the “wordpress” directory:

cd /opt/lampp/htdocs/wordpress

You can then use the following command to start the WordPress development server:

php -S localhost:8000

Now, you can open your web browser and navigate to the following address:

http://localhost:8000

You will be able to access WordPress in development mode.
